Dr. Vafa Shayani received his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He received his Doctorate in Medicine from The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in general surgery at The George Washington University Hospital Department of General Surgery.

Dr. Shayani is a board certified general surgeon and holds a number of society memberships including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons. He has successfully performed nearly 100 Gastric Bypasses and over 900 Lap-Bands.

Dr. Shayani’s achievements in academic surgery are evident by the numerous articles published in peer reviewed journals, book chapters and his presentations at national and international meetings.

Dr. Shayani and his wife currently reside in Hinsdale with their two children.
